Membership
Membership
We have several membership categories to fit you and your family. Please submit your membership application and fee, subject to approval by the Membership Committee. For convenience, we automatically renew memberships before the High Holidays at the same category as the previous year. If you do not wish us to renew your membership during the summer or wish to upgrade your membership category, please let us know.
Please consider a Society or Sustaining Level Membership. The basic operating cost to run the shul is $3,000 per member unit. Better yet, consider a gift above that to offset those who are not in a position to do so.
Are you a parent of a B'nai Israel member? As the only synagogue in Downtown Baltimore, we provide a Jewish home for your children. Please consider joining the Parents Circle. See the Associate/Student/Parent Circle category below.
Society Level Memberships
Society Level Memberships include four Reserved High Holiday seats except as noted.
Crown of Torah
Crown of Torah Dues: $10,000/year or above
Pillars of Torah
Pillars of Torah Dues: $6,000/year or above
The Lloyd Street Society was created to honor the incredible amount of Jewish heritage on Lloyd Street and the surrounding neighborhood. The Jewish Museum of Maryland, Lloyd Street Synagogue, B'nai Israel Congregation, Attman's Deli, Corned Beef Row, and so on are wonderful testaments to the history of Jews in Baltimore. The $3,600 dues support 100% of our operating costs in a fair share per member unit model and helps to offset the cost of membership for someone who cannot otherwise afford to join our Historic synagogue.
Lloyd Street Society Dues: $3,800/year or above
B’nai Israel’s 1873 Society was established to recognize our 140+ years of continual operation (named for the year we were incorporated) and those who wish to honor it. The 1873 dollars support 85% of our operating costs in a fair share per member unit model and helps to offset the cost of membership for someone who cannot otherwise afford to join our Historic synagogue. This membership level also includes 3 High Holiday seats.
1873 Society Dues: $2,073/year or above (includes 3 High Holiday seats)
Sustaining Level Membership
Sustaining Level Memberships include Reserved High Holiday seats. (2 for family, 1 for individual)
The Sustaining Membership level is available for those who wish to support B’nai Israel with an added contribution over Basic Membership. The dues for this membership level sustain 60% of the synagogue’s operating budget in a fair share per member unit model. The rest we seek from fundraising efforts and generous contributions throughout the year.
Sustaining Family Membership: $1,700/year (includes 2 High Holiday seats)
Sustaining Single Membership: $1,200/year (includes 1 High Holiday seat)
Basic Membership
Basic Membership includes Open High Holiday seating. (2 for family, 1 for individual)
Family Membership: $1,345/year
Single Membership: $725/year
Associate/Student/Parent Circle Membership
Associate Membership:
Anyone with a residence in Downtown Baltimore is not eligible for Associate Membership. Associate Membership is only available for those for whom B'nai Israel is not their local Synagogue and is also not their primary Synagogue, and are full time members of another congregation. Typically, Associate Members live a good distance away and are rarely able to attend B'nai, but appreciate and wish to support B'nai Israel's work in revitalizing the Downtown Baltimore Jewish community.
Student Membership is offered to those who are in a non-paid, non-stipend, full-time student program (i.e., a residency is not eligible).
Parents Circle Membership is for parents of B'nai Israel members who want to support B'nai Israel's work in revitalizing the Downtown Baltimore Jewish community.
This level of membership does not include High Holiday seats unless you are a student.
Associate/Student/Parent Circle Membership Family: $550/year
Associate/Student/Parent Circle Membership Single: $325/year
